The Frankfort Bluegrass Festival is back — two free days of world-class music, July 11 & 12

One of Illinois’s finest free music festivals returns to historic downtown Frankfort this summer, with over 40 performances across multiple stages, a kids’ area, and the kind of community spirit that makes Heritage Knolls such a great place to call home.

Mark your calendars, Heritage Knolls — the Frankfort Bluegrass Festival is one of the premier free music events in the south suburbs, and it’s right in our backyard. Held annually at Breidert Green and Prairie Park in historic downtown Frankfort, the festival draws music lovers from across the region for two full days of bluegrass, folk, and Americana performed by international, national, and local acts.

The scale of this festival is remarkable for a free community event. Over two days, more than 40 acts take the stage across multiple venues in downtown Frankfort — from the main stage at Breidert Green to additional stages throughout the area. The lineup typically spans a range of bluegrass and roots music styles, featuring performers from around the world alongside beloved local favorites.

SATURDAY, JULY 11

Full festival day

10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. — Longest day of performances. Plan to stay all day.

SUNDAY, JULY 12

Sunday finale

10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. — A perfect family day to wrap up the weekend.

The Frankfort Bluegrass Festival isn’t just for music fans — it’s a genuine family event. Over at Prairie Park, a dedicated Kids Area keeps younger attendees engaged all day long:

  • Storytimes at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 1:00 p.m.
  • All-day crafts for kids of all ages
  • Free admission for the whole family

 

Meanwhile, parents can settle in at Breidert Green and enjoy the music knowing the kids are entertained nearby. Local bars and restaurants in the downtown area are all within walking distance, and the festival atmosphere makes for a wonderful afternoon of community connection.

Planning your visit

Getting to the festival from Heritage Knolls is easy — it’s just a short drive to historic downtown Frankfort. Free street and lot parking is available in the surrounding area. The festival does not serve alcohol on-site, but downtown Frankfort’s bars and restaurants are steps away if you’d like to extend the evening. Dress comfortably, bring lawn chairs or a blanket, and prepare to stay longer than you planned.
