The Village of Frankfort’s annual fall leaf collection runs October 19 through December 1 — but there are a few important rules to follow to make sure your leaves get picked up and to avoid a village ordinance violation.
Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year in Heritage Knolls — and also one of the busiest for yards. The good news is that the Village of Frankfort makes leaf cleanup easier with its annual free curbside leaf collection program, running from Monday, October 19 through Tuesday, December 1, 2026.
Before you start raking, take a moment to review the rules. A pile set out incorrectly can be passed over — or worse, result in a village ordinance violation. Here’s everything Heritage Knolls residents need to know.
2026 LEAF COLLECTION AT A GLANCE
| Program dates
October 19 – December 1, 2026 |
Placement
Rake to the roadside edge or curb — not into the street |
| Leaves only
No grass clippings, twigs, or branches mixed in |
Other yard waste
Bag separately with Homewood Disposal stickers |
VILLAGE ORDINANCE REMINDER
Do not rake leaves into the street or into ditches. This is a violation of Village of Frankfort ordinance and can contribute to drainage and safety issues in our neighborhood.
How to set out your leaves
Rake leaves to the edge of the road or curb — the strip between the sidewalk and street. Keep the pile as neat as possible and away from storm drains. The collection crew will vacuum up leaves along the roadside, so placement matters.
| DO THIS
• Rake leaves to the roadside edge or curb • Keep leaves separate from other yard waste • Place branches separately, ends toward street • Bag mixed debris with Homewood Disposal stickers |
DON’T DO THIS
• Rake leaves into the street (ordinance violation) • Rake into ditches or storm drains • Mix grass clippings or twigs into the leaf pile • Mix branches into the leaf pile |
What about branches and other yard waste?
Branches and other yard debris must be handled separately from your leaf pile. Branches that are 1 inch in diameter or larger should be stacked separately with cut ends facing the street — the same guidelines as the Village’s spring and summer branch pickup program.
Yard waste that doesn’t qualify for curbside pickup — including leaves mixed with grass clippings or other debris — should be placed in proper yard waste bags with Homewood Disposal stickers for separate collection. Stickers can typically be purchased at local hardware or home improvement stores.
